A Temporary Derailment

I haven’t posted in a few days as I was hit with a virus on my PC last week and it has done quite a demolition job on the old girl. The upshot is I can't get online. The blog is still very much alive but until I get a new PC (next week I hope), the ‘Shores will be operating on a low level basis. I'll try to get the next Hammer rolled out in the meantime but it’s not easy using the PC here in work. So my advice is, keep your security up to date, stick to tried and trusted websites and don't talk to strangers...

  1. Sorry to hear of your PC troubles Wes, how old was she, was it about time to trade her in for a newer model anyway?

  2. Thanks Mart. Yeah, we've had that Dell for 5 years now so it served us well, and really it was a warhorse for the amount of programs I ran on it - the DVD burner had long since given up the ghost and there was a problem with the motherboard as well where the PC could not be switched back on once shut down - it always had to be placed on standby when not in use. Defo time to get something new. I'm gonna order a new machine today, so I'll be back in black next week, but damn I hate being offline for the w/end.

  3. Oh wow I been having serious computer issues the last two days, too, Wes. Mine is five years old, too. Apparently I hadn't done any windows updates so when I went to upgrade to a better version of firefox, it screwed everything up. It would do fine for about five minutes then freeze up. I switched to internet explorer, but couldn't use some of bloggers functions in it. Now I switched to google chrome and it seems to work okay so far. I'll be getting a new PC, myself, hopefully soon!

  4. @venoms5 - I feel for you buddy... Yeah, I'm about to take a hammer to my one at this stage. I've been using a work machine to see if I could fix the problems myself, but I'm no tech expert so most work-arounds posted on the web I can never get to work. Thanks for checking in venoms, the downtime here is painful - stay safe out there !

  5. Hope you get it sorted with the new PC, Wes. I replaced my old Dell a couple of weeks ago - everything's faster now so worth forking out for a new machine. Great choice of photo by the way!

  6. Thanks Jon, new machine arriving on Wed. A depressing few days actually, the PC getting wiped-out like that and impervious to any fixes I applied to it. I was lucky though - the day before the malware attack I almost bought a multi-region Blu-Ray player, but held off for one reason or another. Good job I did, funds don't extend to a new PC and a new player at the moment...

  7. Sorry you had the problem - I got hijacked by a hacker virus and had to take the tower in to be bombed back into shape - and I lost THOUSANDS of pictures and files. Very trying. Glad you got back on track as quickly as you did.
